KIRTORF
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Vogelsbergkreis (until 1975 Alsfeld)
Additions : 1972 Arnshain, Gleimenhain, Heimertshausen, Lehrbach, Ober-Gleen, Wahlen
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms show the helmet and crest of the Counts of Hessen. The town became part of Hessen in 1450, previously it had belonged to the Counts of Ziegenhain. The oldest seal with the arms is known from 1489, but the seal itself probably is older. All later seals and images show the same arms, although the colour of the field is sometimes shown as red.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
