The horse's head symbolizes the equestrian tradition of the town. Indeed, it was in 1618 that the Duke of [[Lorraine]] established a stud farm at La Jumenterie. The tower is the one built at the Jumenterie. The [[Lorraine]] coat of arms is charged with ants, the nickname given to the inhabitants of Saint Maurice.
