The arms of the Belfort Territory are derived from the former County Belfort, created in the 17<sup>th</sup> century when the area was conquered by the French. The tower is the tower taken from the arms of the city of [[Belfort]]. The bars are most likely derived from the arms of the first count, Gustave de Champagne, and thus from the arms of the [[Champagne]]
