History: First formed in 1941 at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton (HMS Heron), Somerset as a Fleet Fighter Development Unit, a role it kept until disbanded in 1956.

Origin/meaning

The Badge was approved on 17 October 1952. It symbolises the Figther Development Role.
