Official blazon
German In Blau, ein gold bewehrter silberner Adler.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 28, 1911 and slightly changed on July 6, 1976.

Arnsberg got city rights in 1237 by the Counts of Werl, who named themselves after the new city. Already the first seals showed the eagle, surrounded by city walls.

The eagle remained on the seals and arms of the city ever since. The present arms were devised in 1910, but the colours are probably not the original colours (either silver or gold on a red field, see the arms of the Arnsberg district).
