Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 31, 1964.

The hill symbolises the Füstenberg hill, on which the Archbishops of Köln had built a small castle in the early Middle Ages. From the vassals living on the castle the Von Fürstenberg family originated. The red bars in a golden field are the coat of arms of the 1162a.wsa.jpg von Fürstenberg family.

The small black cross is the symbol for the State of Köln.
