SANKT OSWALD OB EIBISWALD

State : Steiermark
District : Deutschlandsberg
Incorporated into : 2015 Eibiswald

Wappen von Sankt Oswald ob Eibiswald

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 11, 1987.

St. Oswald is a name not infrequent in the mountain regions of Austria. Among others, he is a patron of miners, but also of cattle-breeders. When Prince Oswald of Northumbria was to be anointed in the course of his coronation, the phial with the sacred oil was destroyed. A raven brought him another. So, the raven and the phial (often in the form of a cup) are the chief attributes of St. Oswald. The arms of St. Oswald display the cup of the saint.
