KIRCHDORF AN DER KREMS

State : Oberösterreich
District : Kirchdorf an der Krems

Wappen von Kirchdorf an der Krems

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 3, 1975.

The lion in the arms is the lion of the State and Diocese of Bamberg, to which the area historically belonged. The church (Kirche) is a canting element.

The arms were designed in 1975 and replaced non-official arms used since the middle of the 19th century. These showed a quartered shield with in I and IV a lion and in II and III a church and in an escutcheon a letter K.

The composition of church and lion dates already from 1437 when the town received a seal with a church and the lion of Bamberg. In the 16th century the seal of the town only showed a two-towered church.
