Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 20, 1994.

The village of Messerich is historically ruled by the Lords of Malberg and the Lords of Manderscheid-Kail. The golden shield is taken from the arms of the Lords of Malberg, and the label is derived from the Manderscheid arms.

The lower part shows some early medieval elements of the local church.

Literature : Wappenbuch der Verbandsgemeinde Bitburg-Land 1995.
