Official blazon
- (de) Geviert; 1 und 4: in Gold ein schwarzer, golden nimbierter, rot bewehrter Doppeladler, die Brust belegt mit einem goldenen Schild mit einem Fürtsenhut, über den Adlerköpfen schwebend eine Kaiserkrone mit roten Kappen, in den Fängen ein goldenes Zepter und einen goldenen Reichsapfel haltend, darunter eine rote Streugabel über einem roten Kamm; 2 und 3: neunmal von Schwarz und Gold geteilt, belegt mit einem schrägrechten, grünen Rautenkranz.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 16, 1995.
Saalfeld was an important city and from 1680-1745 the capital of the Duchy of Sachsen-Saalfeld. This is symbolised by the arms of Sachsen in the second and third quarter. The other two quarters show the arms of the Princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.
