Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1965, previously the municipality simply used the district arms.

The shield shows the local castle built in the 14th century by the Counts of Schaumburg and renovated in 1871-3. The small shield shows the arms of the former district of Schaumburg-Lippe.

The waves symbolise the Steinhuder lake, that borders the city. The two branches symbolise the fact that the village was founded in the 14th century after clearing the forests.
