Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1951.

The arms show the local basilica, dating from Medieval times and finished in 1158. The small shield in the gate shows the arms of Gottfried and Otto, Counts of Kappenberg, founders of the church.

Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
