Official blazon
In gespaltenem Schild vorne in Gold ein roter Balken, hinten in Blau eine durchgehende silberne Mauer mit drei Zinnen, offenem Tor und hochgezogenem silbernen Fallgatter.
Origin/meaning
Lahr received city rights in the second half of the 13th century. The oldest seal is known from 1305 and the composition of this shield was used in 1958 when the above arms were granted. The arms combine the bar taken from the arms of the Lords of Geroldseck, with a city wall, symbol for the fortified character of the city. The city developed around the castle of the Lords of Geroldseck.
