Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 27, 2003.
The boat is a symbol for the former ferries to the island of Rügen, and is also partly canting (Fähre=ferry). The upper half shows the current dike, built in the 1930s, which replaced the ferry service. The blue refers to the Strelasund straint.
The arms were already designed in the late 1980s, but were not officially granted until 2003.
