Origin/meaningThe arms are identical to the seal made after the granting of the city rights in 1609. Before 1609 the town used a seal with a single tower, with in the gate the arms of the Counts of Schaumburg, the nettle-leaf or Nesselblatt. After 1609 the Schaumburg arms were placed between two towers. The arms were officially granted in 1907 and the Schaumburg arms were replaced by the arms of Schaumburg-Lippe, i.e. the old arms with the rose of Lippe in the centre.
