Origin/meaningManderscheid got city rights in 1332 from the Lords (later Counts) of Manderscheid-Kerpen, but the village never developed into a proper city. There are no seals of arms known from the city. The present arms were devised in this century and show the arms of the Lords of Manderscheid.
