Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1938, but date from the 13th century.

The arms are based on the composition of the oldest seal of the city, dating from the late 13th century. The seal also showed two small flowers on both sides of the tower, but these were removed.

All later seals also showed a tower, but the size and shape varied widely during the centuries. Hence the choice in 1938 to take the original images as arms. In the 19th century sometimes in rolls of arms the arms of Lauffen am Neckar was shown wrongly as the arms for the city.
