Origin/meaningThe arms with the fish already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the 13th century. The fish most likely is a symbol for the importance of fishing for the city at the time. The stars were also present on the first seal, but have varied regularly during the centuries. At present the number is fixed to seven.
