In Silber zwischen zwei aufgerichtetem einander zugewendeten blauen Heringen ein vor Rot und Silber geschachter zwölffeldriger kleiner Schild mit aufgesetztem Bügelhelm und roten Hirschstangen als Helmzier.

Origin/meaning

The shield shoes the arms of the Counts of Hohenstein, to which the area belonged at the time. These arms already appeared on the 14th century seal of the city. The two herrings are a canting symbol for the city and appear only later in the arms.
