Origin/meaning
The arms date from the 15th century. According to the legend written by the chronicler Andrew Komonieckiego a live bison from the area of Międzybrodzie was offered to Prince Przemysław Oświęcim (Auschwitz). In gratitude for this gift the prince gave the town a coat of arms: a wisent's head and the golden eagle of the Duchy of Oświęcim.
