Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 2, 1576 by Duke Phillip Ludwig of the Pfalz-Neuburg.
All later seals and images thus show these arms. The lower part is taken from the arms of the Wittelsbach dynasty, to which the Duke belonged. The trees in the upper part refer to the large Painten forest near the town.
Hupp showed in the 1920s the upper part silver, see below.
