Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 16, 1957 for the rapidly growing municipality.
No older seals or arms were known, so the arms were newly devised. Garching historically was a bordertown between the State of Salzburg and the Duchy of Bayern. The Alz river was the border until 1803 and the local bridge one of the few passages.
This is symbolised in the arms, with in the upper half the cross for Salzburg with the red and white for Salzburg and the blue and white for Bayern.
