Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 6, 1960.

The arms show in the upper part the arms of the Counts of Bogen, who owned most of the district until 1242. Their descendants were the Kings of Bayern from the Wittelsbach family, thus the diamonds also indicate the fact that the district is in Bayern.

The lower part shows some natural features of the district. Until the middle of the 19th century bears lived in the mountains in the district. The tree symbolises the fact that the district has many forests and the pale symbolises the Regen river that runs through the district.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
