Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting pear tree (from Birn-baum). The tree with pears already appears in the oldest seal of the town, from the late 15th century. The arms were officially granted on September 7, 1527 by Emperor Karl V. The arms have thus not changed since, even though some images and seal exist where the pears are not shown on the tree.
