Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1842 and were based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1721. The knight most likely is the patron saint, St. Mauritius. The saint is shown as a knight as the town has been a possession of the Teutonic Order for a long time. The cross is also the cross of the Order.
