Origin/meaning

Walbeck was a possession of the Counts of Nydeggen until 1359 when it was sold to Geldern.

The oldest seal of Waldeck dates from 1468 and shows a divided shield, with in the upper part the lion of Gelre and in the lower part the letter W. Both later seals, from the 16th and 18th century, show the same arms.
