GRYON
Canton : Vaud
Official blazon
De gueules à deux haches d'argent emmanchées d'or, posées en sautoir et accompagnées en chef d'une croix tréflée du second.
Origin/meaning
The arms were devised in 1922 and show in the upper part a cross as a symbol of the St.Maurice Abbey, to which the village belonged. The lower part shows two axes. These symbolise the determination with which the villagers cut down the poles used by the Bernese to mark the forests in the 17th century, when the village was no longer used by the city of Bern.
