Origin/meaning
The arms were devised and granted on December 20, 1954.
The right part shows the wheel of the State of Mainz, as the town belonged to Mainz until 1803. The small wavy bend below the wheel is the Elsava stream, from which the name of the town is derived in the 17th century. The left part of the arms is canting, an aspen (Else) on a field (Feld).
