Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 13, 1997.

The arms show a striking bridge in the city, a former early 20th century bridge for the Brandenburg/Havel-Rathenow railway line and now a local landmark. The fish symbolizes the location of the city on the Havel. The duck heads come from the von Treskow family arms 1977a.wsa.jpg.

The previous arms were developed and approved in 1963. It showed the bridge, a fish and a river, and a flask. The latter stood for the chemical industry, which had played an important role in Premnitz since 1915.
