Origin/meaning
The present arms were granted in 1968.
The falcon is taken from the arms of the Counts of Falkenberg, who founded the town in the 12th century. The broken wheel in the base is the symbol of St. Catherine. The two staffs are a symbol for the abbey in Herrenchiemsee, to which the parish belonged.
The first arms of the town were granted in 1903 by Prince-Regent Luitpold of Bayern. These arms showed the image of St. Catherine, with the broken wheel, holding in het hand a small shield with a falcon, see below.
