DOMINIQUE JOSEPH MATHIEU

Born : June 13, 1963
Deceased :

Archbishop of Teheran-Ispahan, 2021-present

Arms (crest) of Dominique Joseph Mathieu

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The 8-pointed star is described as the 'Star of Persia' and is also a typical symbol in traditional Iranian art. The star also refers to St. Mary as Stella Maris. The letters IHS are derived from the Greek writing for Jesus.

The two lilies refer to St. Joseph, the patron saint of the Archbishop, but are also a symbol of St. Mary. The blue field is also a reference to St. Mary.

The chief shows the arms of the Franciscan order, to which the archbishop belongs.
