JOHN LONGLAND
Born : 1472
Deceased : May 7, 1547
Bishop of Lincoln, 1521-1547
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
His arms are given in an early Tudor book of arms in the College of Arms. This shows the field to have been argent, the chevron and rose gules (barbed and seeded proper), the roundels sable, the cock on the chevron argent, the two lions' faces azure and the barrulet vert. Also a crest is shown for him which may be blazoned : on a tree stump eradicated or a dove argent.
The arms are basically the arms of the Longland family, with the addition of the chief showing Royal symbols, as he was confessor to King Henry VIII.
