SCHÖNAU AN DER BREND
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Rhön-Grabfeld
Additions : 1978 Burgwallbach, Schönau
German | Über goldenem Zinnenschildfuß mit schwarzem Wellenbalken in Grün ein silbernes Rhönrad, darin ein goldenes Eichenblatt. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 21, 1987.
The arms are based on the history of the two villages. The main charge is the so-called Rhönrad (wheel of the Rhön), a wheel designed in 1925 by Otto Feick from Schönau.
The embattlement refers to the Burg (castle) part of Burgwallbach, and also rfers to the former castle in the village. The castle was bought in 1489 by Anton von Bibra, and the black and silver are the colours of the Von Bibra arms. The family lived on the castle until 1602.
The green colour and the oak leaf refer to the forests in the municipality and the wavy bar symbolises the Brend river.
