Origin/meaning
The arms are a combination of the diamonds of the arms of Bayern, and the lion of the Pfalz.
The arms of the Kreis Oberbayern, which existed until 1945 were rather different:
These arms show the arms of Bayern (diamonds) with in a point a monk for München.
