Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1931.
The mitre stands for the Abbey of Westminster, to which the Manor of Hampstead belonged from the end of the 10th century until 1539. The other emblems stand for later holders of the Manor: the fleur-de-lis and stag's head for Hickes, the fretty chief for Noel and the cross for Langhorne. The holly is from the seal of the old Hampstead Vestry.
