Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting ship (Schiff), described as a medieval Kogge. The waves symbolise the Geeste river. The wheat ear with 9 grains symbolises agriculture as well as the nine former municipalities.

Before 1974 the municipality used similar arms, but with two wheat ears for agriculture.
