Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The blue lion represents Daniel, and a red crown stands for Edward the Confessor, whose name he took at Confirmation. The lion's blueness represents the waters of baptism, and a general background of gold represents the kingdom of heaven.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop.
