Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??

The name may be derived from 'a place with a wooden house' and the arms thus show a cross made of timber. The cross refers to the fact that the village was historically owned by a number of religious institutions; the Abbey of Werden, the Abbeys of Riechenberg, St. Cyriacus, Riddagshausen, Drübeck, Kaland zu Kissenbrück and Stötterlingenburg, the diocese of Halberstadt, the convent of Steterburg and the Cathedral Chapter of Goslar.

The arms show in the cross a square, which refers to the village square. The colours are those of the Duchy of Braunschweig, to which the area historically belonged.
