STEINDORF AM OSSIACHER SEE
State : Kärnten
District : Feldkirchen
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 10, 1977.
The arms show a Wels (catfish) and a heraldic mountain.
The ctafish is a common fish in the great lakes of Carinthia (among them the Ossiacher See). Every other year, a fisherman catches a specimen of impressive size. According to legend, some pieces were measured at 2 metres and more, but the evidence is usually eaten by the time the press or the State Museum arrive.
The heraldic mountain in base may refer to the surrounding hills or to the Stein- (stone) part of the name.
