Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 8, 1989.

The arms show a unique broken wheel, partially a wagon wheel, patrially a will wheel. The wagon wheel refers to the historical importance of agriculture and trade, the mill wheel refers to the formerly important Borghorst water mill in the municipality. The broken wheel forms a cross, which indicates that the village developed on the cross of two main roads. At the same time, the four parts indicate the village of Osdorf and the four estates (Borghorst, Borghorsterhütten, Augustenhof), that were combined in 1928 to the present municipality.

The oak leaves refer to the Dänischen Wohld forest area which is characterised by oak trees, in which the municipality is situated.
