PEGNITZ (PEG)
State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1974 Bayreuth
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms combine in the chief the arms of the Hohenzollern dynasty, as Margraves of Nürnberg, and the lion of the State of Bamberg. Both the Hohenzollern dynasty as well as the Bishops of Bamberg held many estates in the district until the end of the 18th century.
The waves symbolise the Pegnitz river.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
