The escutcheon shows the lion of the Pfalz, after the village was named. The village was founded by several families originating from the Pfalz in the early 18<sup>th</sup> century. The families had fled from the Pfalz and wanted to emigrate to the United States. However, They were stopped at the Dutch border and thus settled on the moors near Goch.
