Origin/meaningThe arms were granted on October 7, 1937. The arms are first seen on the local seal of Sparneck and Zell, which dates from the early 17th century. The wings are taken from the crest of the arms of the Lords of Sparneck, who had many large possessions in the area. The two chevrons on the wings are canting (Sparre=chevron). The arms were still used at the end of the 18th century, when the Lords of Sparneck were already extinct for some decades.
