SULINGEN

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Diepholz (until 1932 Sulingen)
Additions : 1974 Klein Lessen, Groß Lessen, Rathlosen, Nordsulingen, Lindern

Wappen von Sulingen/Arms (crest) of Sulingen
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Sulingen developed around the castle of the bishops of Münster. The new town was ruled by the Counts of Hoya. The oldest known seal dates from 1558 and shows the bear's claw of Hoya, combined with the town's initial. Later seals show the same composition, but the style of the S differed widely during the centuries. Only in the early 20th century the two elements were divided and the colours were officially described.

Presently the municipality uses the arms with a mural crown.

In the Kaffee Hag albums of the early 20th century the arms were shown in a slightly different composition and colours :

Wappen von Sulingen/Coat of arms (crest) of Sulingen

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
Wappen von Sulingen/Coat of arms (crest) of Sulingen

Postal cancellation 1956
