FISH MERCHANTS IN ANTWERPEN (Gilde van de vischverkoopers in Antwerpen)
Official blazon
- (nl) Van keel met de van drie torens voorziene burcht van zilver, vergezeld rechts en links van eenen visch van hetzelfde metaal, paalsgewijze geplaatst ; de middeltoren geëvend, rechts, van een schild met den ontplooiden adelaar des H. Rijks, en links, van het schild des hertogdoms Brabant gevierendeeld met dat des hertogdoms Limburg.
Origin/meaning
The arms show the castle of Antwerpen with two fish. The two small shields indicate the medieval origin ans show the Imperial eagle and the quartered arms of the Dukes of Brabant-Limburg. These arms are based on the medieval seal of the guild.
Two other shields used by the guild are known, one showing fish and a lobster, and one showing a merman, see below.
