Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The first arms were officially granted on August 4, 1818, new arms on May 5, 1930.
The old arms show a spinning whleen and loom held by two lions. The meaning is not known, but probably refers to the importance of (home) spinning in the village at the early 19th century.
The colours are the Dutch national colours, as in 1813 the mayor applied without indicating the colours. The arms were thus granted in the national colours. After the Belgian independence the colours were not changed.
The arms of 1930 are based on the oldest seal of the council from 1694 and show the arms of the Counts of Berghes-Saint-Winnoc, Lords of Elsegem at the time.
