FRIEDRICHSGABE

State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Segeberg (until 1971 Pinneberg)
Incorporated into: 1970 Norderstedt

Wappen von Friedrichsgabe/Arms (crest) of Friedrichsgabe
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were were never officially granted, but designed in 1966. Due to the merger with Norderstedt, the arms were never approved.

The village was founded in 1821 by Johann Daniel Lawaetz as a 'colony' for the poor. The permission was obtained from the Danish King Frederik VI, hence the name ('gift of Frederik'). This is also symbolised by the Danish flag and the crown. The flag is curled as the birder is now North of the village. The nettle-leaf is the arms of Holstein, to which the area historically belongs.

The wheel stands for the historical wagons in which the local peat was transported. It also refers the journeys of the refugees that settled in the village after the Second World War.

The colours are taken from the colours of Schleswig-Holstein.
