Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 15, 2016.
The new arms retained the fish from the old arms. The blue also refers to the Raab river. The upper half symbolises the (square) fields along the Raab river and thus represents agriculture.
The black figure is the Feldbacher Metzen, a stone measure in the centre of the city, which was used to standardise liquids. The statue dates from the 14th century.
The statue |
The previous arms were granted by Emperor Franz Joseph I at Feb. 1, 1909.
The fish does appear in seals from the Middle Ages. An escutcheon bearing the Styrian panther was eliminated in 1909, but maybe by way of recompense an angel was included into the full arms as a single supporter of the old arms. The full achievement is surmounted by a mural crown silver.
