Origin/meaning
The new arms were granted after the merger with the other municipalities on July 1, 1986.
The first quarter shows the old arms of Herent, the second the old arms of Winksele. The lower part represents the villages of Veltem and Beisem.
The previous arms were granted on July 9, 1861.
The arms show the image of St. Mary with Jesus. The composition was already used by the council of Herent in 1391. All later seals, known from 1452, 1539 and 1590 all show the same composition. In 1861 the council choose the composition form the seal as its arms.
