EDWARD ERNEST SWANSTROM
Born: March 20, 1903
Deceased : August 10, 1985
Auxiliary bishop of New York, 1960-1978;Titular Bishop of Arba
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The field is divided by a cross patonce, derived from the posthwnous coat of arms of St. Edward the Confessor, baptismal patron of Bishop Swanstrom. The crescent honora the Immaculate Conception to whom the Bishop has special devotion; the Diocese of Brooklyn, of which she is patron; and Mrs. Mary Swanstrom, his mother. The center or the cross is decorated with a roundle bearing a rose to honor Bishop Swanstrom's patroness. St. Teresa, the Little Flower.
The swan on a wavy bar is a canting reference to the family name, composed of the German word 'Schwan (swan) and Strom (stream).
The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop.
